In-Service Ultrasonic Examination of BWR MC-Nozzles Using Qualified Techniques:Experience in Sweden
نویسندگان
چکیده
Tecnatom has participated in the qualification of some ultrasonic techniques for the Nuclear Power Plants in Sweden. These qualifications have been performed by means of Technical Justifications and practical trials on test specimens with real defects. Also, ultrasonic simulation software has been used as aid for technical justifications. This paper will describe some of these qualification processes and the experiences on-site. The methodology used in these qualifications has allowed an increase in the quality of the inspections, minimization of the operation errors, and knowledge of the reliability of the ultrasonic data and the results reported. This methodology has been extended to the development of inspection techniques for other components (pressure vessel head welds, bottom dome welds), but the process will be presented only for MC-nozzles examination. This paper will also describe the quality procedures and control tools developed, and the advantages obtained by using this methodology.

In tire industry, it is very crucial to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of the rubber which is used for production of the tire, to ensure the quality of the final product. Resilience is an important property of a rubber, which cannot be evaluated through direct measurement in production cycle in this industry. Therefore, non-destructive ultrasonic testing, which has been used in man...
متن کاملPhased Array Ultrasonic Detection & Sizing of In-Service Cracks in Heavy Walled Reactor Nozzles - Part 1
Ultrasonic crack detection and sizing is an essential tool in determining the asset integrity of pressure vessels and piping. Conventional UT shear wave methods have proved to be time consuming, requiring high skill levels and frequently resulting in unreliable and inconsistent data. Phased array UT technology can provide novel solutions to these problems with reliable results, imaging of the c...
متن کاملCapability of Matrix Phased Array UT for the RV Head Mockups
PWR reactor vessel (RV) head has a number of penetration nozzles, including nozzles with thermal sleeve for control rod drive mechanisms (CRDM) and without thermal sleeve. These nozzles are typically made of nickel-based Alloy 600 or 690 and welded to the inside of the RPV head. Cracking has been reported in Alloy 600 nozzles and the J-weld regions. These nozzles are normally inspected by eddy ...
